I've always loved using graphic organizers for reading and writing. The article heightened my excitement for them. I used graphic organizers during my student teaching, and realized that students were able to write more organized, structured and detailed pieces. I also experienced that students' comprehension was reinforced by using graphic organizers.
One thing that caught my attention from the article was that graphic organizers can be used in other subject areas such as math. I used workmats and manipulatives for math, but I never thought of them as graphic organizers. I would definitely like to use them in math. I feel that this will help the visual learners to have a more concrete grasp in mathematical concepts.
If Kidspiration is available to me, I will definitely use them. It is so helpful to have a program dedicated solely to graphic/visual organizers. Using Kidspiration would be a great way to help students organize, problem-solve and enhance learning. It is also a great way to integrate all the subjects with technology.
